Fit & Geometry
Race vs Endurance Geometry
The choice between race and endurance geometry is one of the most important decisions in this segment. Stack (vertical height from bottom bracket to head tube top) and reach (horizontal distance) define the riding position. Race bikes place the rider lower and more stretched out for aerodynamics; endurance bikes sit the rider higher and more compact for all-day comfort.
An important caveat from experienced bike fitters: the distinction is sometimes overstated by marketing. A properly sized race bike with stem spacers can be ridden comfortably, and an endurance bike pushed hard can be surprisingly fast. Bike fit matters more than category labels. That said, stack height is difficult to manipulate without affecting handling, making the initial frame choice genuinely important.
Comparison: Size 56
Race: Specialized Tarmac 56
Stack 565mm · Reach 395mm
Endurance: Specialized Roubaix 56
Stack 605mm · Reach 384mm
That’s 40mm higher stack and 11mm shorter reach.
